Today at the Miami show there was a Baja brand boat, 28' with twin 300 Mercs rigged for the Marine Patrol. It was obviously a Baja hull, but at the stern there was a large symbol that said something along the lines of "Boston Whaler Commercial/Government Vessels." I thought this was weird, and was wondering if the two companies had any correlation. Also, the Dauntless 22 looks like it will be a winner. A VERY nice inshore boat.

I also saw the 28ft Baha/BW CPD vessel. It was powered by two 300hp pro max mercs. I was even taken for a ride out Government Cut! Basically BW CPD is trying to develop a intercept vessel for the law enforcement comunity. Since Baha and BW are sister companies under Brunswick......Anyway, the thing hauled a$$. We left govenrnment cut and headed south with the wind for about 70mph. Those 300 Mercs are sick. Instant throttle response. They turn almost 7000 rpm! I've driven many other twin engine outboard boats and this thing got my blood pressure up. Never the less, it isn't a whaler, just a Baha outfitted by BW CPD. The sales man that took us for a ride also said that the Comm. Products Div. has branched off into it's own entity. Bottom line is, he took my brother, father and I for a ride, and I't was a blast. |
