Hey,Does anyone know what color my whaler is?
Trying to get some gelcoat from mini craft, but they think it is a desert tan { WAY TOO DARK}
Looks like an off white to me.
Hull #BWCA7847M75A
Is this a 74 Or 75
The Reg, says 74
Thanks a lot, billy

The inside of your boat is Desert Tan but the outside is Outrage Gray.

Many people here refer to the post 1972 Whalers as being Desert Tan as opposed to blue but the fact of the matter is the inside and the outside are two different colors. (at least up until 1983 they were)

Now having said all that, I will point once again that getting a perfect color match for an old Whaler is far more complicated than ordering some gel coat that nominally matches. There are many factors at work here.

Different batches of gel coat were (and are going to be) different from one another. In addition to this. fading of the gel coat will confuse and confound you when trying to find the perfect match. On my last boat I found that different colors had to be used on different parts of the same hull. Sunlight had changed things that much. The console was also different than either the interior liner or the exterior hull.

You will do well to get some additional white and gray and add these colors to adjust whatever gel coat you decide to use. Just mix in a little to move the value one way or the other.

Regarding the HIN (Hull Identification Number) you have provided: BWCA7847M75A, BWC (the MIC) means it is a product of Boston Whaler, A7847 is the serial number, M identifies the HIN as one of two different formats, in this case the "model year" format, 75 indicates your boat is a 1975 model, and A indicates it was produced in August, but I am unclear whether that is August 1975 or August 1974. (After November 1984 they switched to a new and less ambiguous HIN format)

Upon further reflection I am now thinking your boat is a 16' and it was made in August of 1974 as a 1975 model year boat.

the color of this whaler is the same on inside & out, kind of a cream color or off white.
This whaler has a front stowage option or deck full of teak compartments.
just purchased this boat in december & i've been resorting it since.
Ready to go on her first voyage, corvina fishing friday.
what an awesome boat! Can't wait to take her out.
Thanks for all the advice.
Good fishing. billybob1

F.Y.I.
I thought my '74 13'er was the same color inside and out but like Tom says it is D.T. inside and O.G. outside. I couldn't tell the difference untill after I gel-coated the transom inside and out and then after reading Tom's post on color went out and looked at the outside of the transom and the sides, deffinently 2 different colors.
