What's the max rated horsepower on various
15' whalers? It will certainly vary from
model to model, and possibly from year to
year. I'm specifically interested in the
max HP for the 15' SuperSport, and the 15'

I can't give you a comprehensive answer but the "Classic" 15 (all models with remote steering): 70 hp.

I know the Dauntless 14 has a maximum of 75 hp, so the 15 would be greater still.

What other 15' Whalers have there been?

My '88 sport is rated @ 70 max. I have a 70 Yammie on it just broken in but dont know just how fast it will go as I've owned the boat only 2 weeks and its too cold to give it a run, but I plan on bringing extra underwear when I finally do.
My guess is close to 45 mph's.
45 on a wooden bench with no windshield.
Owning a boat can be a pain in the butt!

Yes there was. That's what Chuck is asking. I don't know the max hp but am assuming it's more than the 14 Dauntless w/ 75 hp max.

All the classic (1976 to 1994) 15's were rated the same at 70 hp so long as they had remote steering.

But other than the Dauntless 15 I can't think of another 15 whaler. The Rage?

A 15-foot hull was made in the following models:
"The Classics"

"The Semi-Classics"

"The Post Classics"

I don't know if they all shared the same hull or not. Clearly they had different interiors and in some cases different cockpit moldings.

There was never a 15' BASSBOAT model, that was what the STRIPER was. But there was also the ALERT and UTILITY CPD models.

All these models used the same hull and had a 70 hp maximum hp rating.

The Rage was a jet so it's probably not applicable to Chuck's question.

All this begs the question of: Chuck? Why all the 15' questions recently?

Howdy, Chuck.

The 15' Dauntless was rated for 75hp, max.

Red sky at night. . .

The 15' questions have to do with a story
that came up on a diving list that is just
full of inconsistencies.

"new 15' whaler"
"100 HP"
location vs. depth
description of critters.

Did the 15' Dauntless and 15' Rage have the same hull?

The dimensions for the dauntless is 15'1",while the rage is 15'4".Ithink the difference in hull is due to the inboard mounting of the engine on the rage and i think the last few feet of hull on the rage is flatter for water pickup into the jet drive, but im not sure.

Based on ABYC guidelines, CFR 183.53 Horsepower Capacity:

Lengths in Feet, round up to the next 5hp

With remote steering and at least 20" transom height.
Max HP=
(Boat length x max transom width x 2) -90

No remote steering, or less than 20 transom
Max HP=
(Boat length x max transom width x 0.5) -15
For flat bottom hard chine boats

Max HP=
(Boat length x max transom width x 0.8) -25
For other boats

Please read & understand the reg before buying an engine.
