I just bought this boat. I know very little about boating.I will use this boat in salt water. This is the frist time this boat and motor have been in salt water. Other than flushing the motor with fresh water is there any other Cleaning or manitance I should do? The motor is a 1989 Yamaha 70 etlg. The boat and motor are in new condtion, The unit was only used for 3 years and then stored in a garage.

Rick:

Congratualtions. I owned an 89 15' Striper for several years. Never used it in anything but saltwater--it's a great boat and I would anticipate that you'll get many, many years of great use out of her. You are correct to note the necessity of a freshwater flush after each trip to the briny, and I think you'd do well to wash the complete rig down with fresh water after each use, too. Occassionally I would wash and wax the hull (spring cleaning to anticipate a great boating season!). All other recommended maintenance (i.e., changing lower unit oil, servicing the water pump) is basically the same as for fresh water. Other than that, don't fear the salt (water). Hope you enjoy your striper as much as I did mine.

Thanks for the help. I bought this boat from a lady that lost her husband in a motor cycle accident. I was not able to get any of the manuals or get any body to tell me about the boat. I need manuals for the motor and boat,I also have a Eagle Ultra locator I need a manual for.Does any body know were I can get them? Thanks again

The Eagle Ultra fishfinder is made by Lowrance and if you go to their site www.lowrance.com you can get support there.

Well, I thought you could get support at the Lowrance site. Actually you need to go to www.eaglegps.com and click on Support then Manuals.

You get a few points for purchasing a safe vessel, continue the theme and educate yourself about safe boating by taking a boating course, Coast Guard Aux. or Power Squadron. :-)
