I have been using this site for quite some time now to help with the restoration of a 1966 Nauset. I was amazed when I saw a post by Jim Barfield that had many responses from other Whaler owner's who boat and fish in Tomales Bay.

Which brings me to the boat that I am in the process of restoring. My father was the Director of the Pacific Marine Station at Dillions Beach for 17 years. They purchased a Nauset in 1966 with the 55 Bearcat, the boat was used and abused by many a grad student in Tomales bay until 1974. To make a long story shorter the boat was purchased by my father in '78 or so, I began working on the poor thing in the early 80's but never got very far. It sat until two years ago when I decided to give it another a go!

I built a custom center console and swing back seat, found a 1998 Nissan 90 plus bass boat and trailer for 1900.00. Donated the Bass boat and trailer for the tax write off and kept the motor. I am now in the process of applying polyurethane to the interior and exterion of the boat.

Hope to have this boat back on the water in May of this year. The first trip on salt water will be to Tomales Bay, which was the place the boat floated.

Many thanks to all of you for the informative post! I intend to make a few much shorter post of my own to help make the next persons restoration a success.

Ed
