I foolishly put a down payment on an 80s,15'
whaler hull. The owner has reglassed and gel
coated the hull. He has not been able to find
the ID numbers on the hull. Of course I cannot register the boat without them.Does anyone out there know the approximate location of the numbers? I'm hoping I might be able to grind off some glass and find them. I have again foolishly purchased a trailer and put a hitch on my car already.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There on a metal tag, 2 places. In the bow locker side facing stern, also on the stern starboard side up high. Also a hull # on transom facing inside but thats not a HIN.
If those tags are both taken off I would be suspicous. Thats how the #'s are on my '88 sport.

My 1983 15' has a metal tag on the transom,I haven't seen one in the bow compartment. I would think the # should be on his registration also. Outraged

Pete, in many states the # is on the title. In Ohio the state requires a title on any boat over 13'and any motor over 10 HP. I would check with the seller. If you have a title, I would have a new plate made. Regards, Jay P.S Welcome aboard!
