Greetings
I am going to install a compass on my 1993 19ft outrage, just removed the deck mounted one and i am thinking about about flush mounting one. The thing is that the flush mount requiers a 4 3/4" hole in the console, It is not so much the hole, but the new electronics in the box,..The compass will set aprox 3" into the box, Any feedback
Thanks
Al

Hi Al, obviously you are going to look and see if it can fit into the proposed hole ie:not hit the steering box. Does either placement put it closer or further from magnets? ie: speaker on the VHF ? And also...can you see it better from the position you most often drive from? ie: sitting or standing? Just a couple thoughts....Dave

Compromise - make yourself a spacer ring of teak large enough to fit around the compass but thick enough to prevent the compass from sinking all the way into the console. By varying the thickness of the ring you should be able to create whatever type of custom mounting befits your application.

I do not know the exact set up you have, but the closer you mount your compass to you electronics and any other metalic object, the less accurate your compass is going to be.
