Recently purchased a 1990 27 ft. Whaler. The engines are mounted on a Whaler Drive bracket. I would like to mount a dive ladder on the boat, but the engine bracket is a sealed unit. I affraid if I cut a whole in it to put in backing washers, I would risk water intrusion (even after it is resealed with a plate). Any suggestions on an alternative way to go about putting a dive ladder on the boat would be appreciated.

If it is a real whaler drive donít cut it open, there is no wood backing in the drive unit. The previous owner of my boat mounted a kicker bracket on the drive. The bolt holes cracked and the drive ended up with water in it...

On my brothers 1991 27' Walk around with Whaler drive the previous owner mounted a kicker bracket.

We had to remove it, cut large hole in deck, dig all of the foam out of that area, install new foam, patch holes, reproduce non-skid...

I am using a West Marine 4 step ladder with the 11" hoops. I slide it under the hand hold railings on the gunwales and it works perfectly.
