As I try to dope out all this wiring stuff that came with the engines that I bought I realize that instructions would be very helpful.

Does anyone have such instructions from a similar year motor especially the ones that come with the motors when new?

Don't think manuals have wiring diagrams. Get a service manual. The newer OMC's just have plugs(my 99 does). You plug the triangle into the triangle. The 6hole into the 6 hole etc. I guess that $65 wiring harness was worth it.

What exactly are you trying to figure out George?

I have a '96 or '97 manual for V-4s and V-6s
(90 HP and up). What do you want to know?
It does have wring diagrams. The factory manual
was less money than the Clymers (which I have
found to be next to useless on cars).

But it is all just plugs now.

Sorry I meant owners manuals don't have wiring diagrams. Triblet i agree, Clymers is like Clift notes. The selocs are a bit better but OEM is the best.

My 4 stroke Evinrude.....I don't need no STINKIN manual! Don't do you any good unless you have $100k worth of diagnostic equipment to use with it:)

If you have all 97 controls and guages most of it will plug in. looks like GM automotive connectors. To get the alarm system to work you need OMC tach, or alarm module. OMC begin with the new style harness sometime in 1995, and there are some butchered harness out there, like when 97 engine rigged using 93/95 controls. V6 engine has 4 alarms, low oil in tank, VRO not pumping oil, fuel restriction, and overheat.
