I recently purchased the model 600 fuel tank. Based on the measurements, 15" W x 43" L x 5.87" H, the tank should fit under the seat of my Boston Whaler 15' GLS side console 1991 boat. However, the gas cap keeps the tank from sliding in and out from under the seat. Does anyone know of a lower profile gas cap that will fit the tank? The cap almost makes it under the seat. The curved clear plastic top of the cap touches the seat.

Howdy, Bobby.

I don't know about Moeller tanks, but I had the same problem with a 28 gallon Tempo and my Montauk.

After much searching, I found a low profile cap in the Yard and Garden Section at WalMart That fit perfectly. I can even reach under the seat to open and close the vent.

The cap is labeled for garden tractors and cost about $4.

Red sky at night. . .

You can also try a Quicksilver (Merc) or an old OMC cap. You can also order the cap from the Gas Buddy made by Tracy International.

On those low profile tanks, either Tempo or Moeller, the cap is NOT supposed to go under the seat. They are designed so that the cap and fuel withdrawl are permanently behind the seat, for filling, without unstrapping and moving the tank. The other reason for this is so that you have "heel" space for your feet when seated. Same applies to the 28 gallon Montauk tank.

These tanks can not be properly used in a Whaler Super Sport model, because of the back rest storage bin.
