I have a question about venting with the Pate fuel tanks. Does the Pate tank vent thru the filler cap? Or do you vent the tank with one of the unused NPT fittings on top?

The standard chrome Pate cap is vented.

Barnett, there are usually two threaded holes on top (one on each side)to allow for fitting pick-up either side so one of these could be used for an additional vent! Clark SCN

I've been keeping the "extra" pickup NPT screw fitting a bit loose thinking I needed it to vent the tank as I didn't know if the cap was designed to vent. However I always have some fuel weeping out and dripping down the side of the tank.

If the cap wasn't designed to vent I was thinking of replacing the second pickup plug with a 90 degree elbow fitting to eliminate the fuel weep. Looks like I don't need it.
Thanks for the replies,
Barnett

I just bought a Pate tank a couple of weeks ago...i made a comment about the "old fashioned" looking cap i was quickly advised that it was an older style vented cap and if i ever needed to replace it make sure i get another "vented cap"

I just bought a used 27 from a whaler mechanic. He provided a new vented cap. He also plugged the used pickup. Haven't used it yet. Can't wait to not have to keep filling up those 6.5 metal portables.
