Has anyone but me, seen the lead story in April Powerboat Reports? I'm supprised that I'm the only subscriber or.... it has been Ho-Hummed on this site. For those who haven't seen it, they cover owner satisfaction for each Whaler model both past and present. We already know it but, they confirm that Whaler has the highest satisfaction rating of any boat in it's class.

James, It's a long (5 pages) article with lots of charts and tables. I'm going to read it again and see if I can condense some of the information. Since it's a copyrighted article, I don't think I want to scan it and post it on this site. If you or anyone would like me to fax you the article, let me know. You can also try logging on to: www.powerboat-reports.com It's a membership site but some areas seem to be public. I'm not trying to sell anyone on anything but, I can honestly say Powerboat Reports is the most educational and informative publication I read from amoung 7 boating oriented subscriptions I receive. They tend to tell it like it is (no ad dollars clouding their judgment). |

Ordering the article from Powerboats costs about $20, it appears. Before I spend the money, did I hear you correctly in saying that the survey covers all Whaler models, past and present? |

The survey consists of responses to a specific questionnaire and misc. comments submitted by owners of Whalers. They did not really differentiate by model except to give some specific examples of resale. They did say that Whalers had the highest percentage of "repeat buyers" (would buy another Whaler) of any used boats they had surveyed. Although it was quite interesting in general, it was typical of a statistics-based article...somewhat questionable conclusions based on not enough information. You know what Benjamin Disraeli said: "there are lies, damned lies, and statistics." Or as my statistics prof used to say: " Statistics are like a bikini...what they reveal is interesting, but what they conceal is vital!" Tom |

Tom's reply pretty well sums it up. You are not going to gain insite into any of lifes great mysteries from reading this article. It's an interesting read and will afford you several opportunities to say to yourself "I knew that!" It validates the decision that all of us have made to spend too much money for a particular brand of boat and makes you feel good about your choice. Other then that, It is of no particular value and no it doesn't cover EVERY model, past and preasant. Would I spend $20.00 to buy the reprint? NO. |

rsgwynn1 I just reread my original post and I stand corrected. I did seem to indicate the survey covered every Whaler ever made, an overstatement on my part. What I should have conveyed was.. they offer a comparison that includes Whalers, past and present. What owners think of new Whalers and how they felt about previous models. |

Finally found that issue at Dad's house last night. Amusing reading, but nothing spectacular. Most days, I could get more insight about owning a whaler by reading this site. My summary would read: Whaler Owners happy to have paid more, reliant on the quality, expecting high resale value. |
