I was browsing through the "yachtworld" website and saw a 1981 18' "Montauk", really an 18' outrage. If you take a close look at the pictures you will see a very official montauk sticker on the corner underneath the black stripe towards the stern. My outrage has an Outrage 18' badge in the same location. I was once searching for a 22' outrage and saw a 22' montauk listed (no pics) I quickly dismissed as either an unknowledgible salesman or a misprint. Does anyone have the scoop?

I've noticed that 'Montauk' seems to be used interchangeably with 'Boston Whaler Center Console' in some for sale classifieds.

I think the badging in the picture was original. Maybe early on when Whaler created the 18' center console the thought to call it a montauk. It was in the early 80's that they came up with the very rare 18' newport.

I think they call them Montauks in Arab countries because the use of the word "outrage" is punishable by death.

George,

There was no such thing as an 18' Montauk.

It doesn't take a lot of skill to stick a sticker on a boat.

I still think it is possible that in it's conception year the 18' could have been called montauk just like the 18' newport carried the name from the 17' hull.
