Just curious,

The rub rail on my 1988 20' Outrage is solid black (no white trim) and it looks as if it is thicker than what is standard... It also appears to be a BW original.

Was a commercial rub rail ever an option?

Thanks, Ed

Yes, a commercial duty rub rail kit was available as an option for your boat. It was a $392 ($587 in year 2001 dollars) upcharge and factory installed only.

My Montauk has one of those thicker rub rails. In 1994 when I bought it new, the Montauks were sold in a desert tan color, which I hated. The color looked old to me out of the factory. I told the dealer that I wouldn't buy it unless it was white. So they ordered me one that had the white paint from the commercial division. It also happened to have the heavier rub rail and grey nonskid. Of course, I had to pay extra for these features, but I keep boats for a long time. I said sounds good to me. Then later on they went back to the white color. The tan boats didn't sell too well I guess. But it is nice to have the heavier rub rail.

The Tan boats sold great, going back to the White color was just a B/W decision based on who knows what?? I like the Tan better than the white, but to each their own. The Tan was out for more than 20 years, believe me they would have changed it way before that if they didn`t sell. Jack.
