The paint is pealing off of portions of the power head, primarily around the spark plugs. I am thinking of painting this part of the motor. From other threads, is seems that a zinc primer is needed, and I guess I can get Yamaha paint to closely match the color. Can I just use a wire brush to clean up the area to be painted? Any other suggestions? Kelly

You will need paint that can tolerate the high heat of the engine. Choose this carefully or you'll have a mess. |

I have painted powerheads before. You can and will use the factory or aftermarket paint. It will hold up just fine because these do not get that hot...maybe 190 degrees which is not hot enough to burn paint. Some powerheads come unpainted and you have to paint before assembly. Just clean it up and shoot. Keep the plugs in there and replace when done. Primer is great but not necessary being corrosion in that area is not very common. |

Is it ok to leave it like it is, with pealing paint and exposed metal, and not paint it? If I don't paint it, will spraying with some type of protectant for salt water use help? Kelly |

Why not just paint it? anything will help....anykind of paint too but I do not recommend it. If you paint it black resale will suffer. get a can of $6 Tempo and paint the head and paint your lower unit while you have it out and she'll look llike new. If it is not bad, just use some CRC. |
