The cover for the trim motor is very rusted. The motor seems to work fine, but the cover is shot. My question is this, could you take that cover off, clean it up, and apply some type of exterior coating that might be water resistant and also help hold it together. I was thinking of martex if it will bond to the metal. Or is it just too much trouble so you buy a new motor? Kelly

You basically have to remove the engine to get that cover off. I have heard that automotive undercoating works well. Recently they have made aftermarket trim motors that are under $200 for the 75-90hp Yammies. My Yamaha was the same way and the recommendation was run it till it implodes and buy a new one. Too labor intensive to fart around with the old one which is 8 years old. Keep painting it every chance you get to proong it's shallow life.
