I am a SeaRay owner that has been lurking on this site for a while, and can announce that I have just acquired my first Whaler, a 1988 13' Sport! I am quite pleased with my new toy as they are not common place here in Canada. It would appear that it has never been set-up for remote steering - no engine throttle/trans control has ever been mounted. No steering wheel or console either, which is my problem. Does anybody have good photos and/or exact dimensions for a console? Also would like to know the diameter of the stainless wheel that came with this boat, and how many spokes?

Soggy.

Welcome aboard Soggy! Use this link and you will find many pictures of a 13' with steering. There is one with a custom console.

Fabricating the side console for a 13-SPORT would not be difficult. Most of the pieces are straight cuts. I think there are only one or two curves in the whole thing!

Perhaps someone has made a drawing already. Or, lacking that, someone can give you a sketch with the dimensions. Or, you could probably build a close replica just by looking at a few photographs and making you own.

The proportions of things like the console are very nicely done in the Classic Whaler, so you don't want to deviate much at all from the original dimensions.

I would personally make a custon one. More like a 15' console. Something a bit wider to center me in the boat and allow binacle controls. I hate having to move my arm that far to grab the throttle on my side. A bigger console would warrant a battery under it as well, etc.
