Hello Folks, new to post, but spend a lot of time listening. I am looking into purchasing a stern seat for my montauk 1996. I know in order to get one for my year you ned to go to a place like Dave's U. I happen to like the style of the newer seats better than the older style... I know it's not original! But I like the newer pattern (2000-2001.)
I have two questions... is a 2000-2001 stern seat exactly the same specs wise? will it fit in my 96 Montauk. And do whaler dealers charge the same when it comes to NOS parts?
In other words if I shop around a little, can I find a better deal on the seat or do they all fare about the same.
sorry one last question... can I still get a 2000-2001 stern seat since the new montauk has arrived.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Whalerfun, Yes you can put a 2000/2001 stern seat in your 96 whaler. The difference is the actual brackets that secure to the floor and the fact that the newer install allows you to quickly remove the stern seat, removing four screws. I found a new (used) stern seat for my 22' revenge with the newer style brackets, from the fort lauderdale whaler dealer and had it sent to maryland. If were talking about the same seat it has a break or opening between the bottom seat and the back supported by two flat L shaped brackets. The brackets supporting the entire seat sit on two 12-14" brackets that are secured to the floor. hope I was of some help. goodluck

Thanks csj, I appreciate your feedback. The seat I was thinking about is a little differn't. It is the same basic design as the older style seat, but covered in a more "modern style". It does not have the break in the back, it is a solid one peice construction. I have been told diffen't answers to my question at a few differn't local dealers. So I figured I would come to the experts! As far as color macth is concerned, my montauk has light gray piping on all my cushions, and I think thats the color of the 2000-2001 seat. If you don't mind me asking, how did you locate your seat from a florida whaler dealer?
