So is the 2002/2003 Montauk 170 a classic due to it's classic lineage?

Or, is it a post classic due to the removal of the Nolin pin and the new softer ride?

Which forum should the new Montauk owners go to?

Thanks.

SSFW - I, by no means am an expert or authority but will take a crack at this. Being that it is a "new" hull design - "it ain't no classic". It seems to me that most posts go to the first (in line) board, but then again there is the "post classic board", so do what you want. I got your post back to the top where more people will see it.

It is not a classic!

Perhaps it will be one in 20 years.

It is a personal thing.

Music is not usually considered truly Classical if the composer is still alive. Similarly, for me at least, it is tough to label a boat model as a classic if it just started what is already a very successful production run.

The looks resemble the time-honored Classic Whalers, but I would not label the 170 Montauk as a Classic, not yet anyways, but someday it will be.

James.

By the way, it's a norman pin, not nolin pin. Just a helpful reminder after seeing it referred to incorrectly by others as well.
