Here in the Midwest, our local county sheriff's department usually offers a course for young boaters to get their boating certificate. Certification is required here (and heavily enforced) for jet skiers, so they always get a strong turnout for the class. They usually offer it once a year at the local yacht club, and it's typically an all day course. But I have also heard of classes being held at the sherriff's office and at the local fire house (presented by the police or Coast Guard, I can't remember which). You might want to phone your local police department or county sherriff's office to inquire. If you know of anyone who's in the Coast Guard Auxillary, you might want to ask them, too. It's good to hear that you're interested in taking this course to help you continue as a safe boater. Congratulations on being a responsible boater, and have fun with your Whaler. -- LKS
