I'm still trying to get through my 10 hours of break-in. Why is the break-in so lengthy, I want to get to some fishing! At 2-4000RPM it looks like it wouldn't take all that long for rings to seat, etc. I know I've read here that sticking to the break-in schedule will add years of service to the engine but it seems excessive. Can anyone explain?
Thanks, Darrell

Easy....it has to be done or no warranty so get some beer and a couple buds and go out for the day. You can't go fishing at 4000 rpm's? Do you need to run WOT to have a good day?

Took for ever to break my 9.9 HP Yamaha 4 stroke in. I was told to run a 6 gallon tank out with oil in and do not remember the RPMS. I was very impressed how long it took. Break it in like they say, my 1986 is still running like new. Mike

Thanks BigShot, Thats the best reason in the world. Don't take me wrong anytime I'm in the boat I'm a happy camper. We do take some "beverages" out and stop now and then to dip our lines but feel like I need to get those 10 hours under my belt so I can concentrate on the fishing. And no I'm not a speedster 4K RPM about 17 MPH on the GPS is pleanty fast for me and a nice speed to cruise.
Thanks, Darrell

Most engines are 20 hours so you got lucky with 10.

RMBW I never heard of breaking in a 4s with oil in the gas though.

That was in 1986. Could be I made a mistake on the oil, but I had to run a 6 gal tank dry. I thought I had to add oil for the break in. Mike
