This boat is for sale in my home town. (Milwaukee-Grafton) I am looking at it this evening. It has a 1996 225hp Yamaha VX. Maybe someone has seen this boat already. Any thoughts or concerns with this year boat or motor? No T tops. What was the max HP for that boat? What is the VX model? $33,900-may be a little steep. Help me sound educated when I get there!~mw

Sounds like VX is for very expensive. Sounds like a great boat.

Is 30K still too expensive? Just got the specs. No real electronics to speak of. Claims 75 hours.

IMO 33,900 is too steep by a considerable margin. Once again, that's just MO. However, I sold my 97 OR21 w/ Yam 225 OX66, super leaning post and some nice electronics for less than 30 two years ago and it was in tip-top condition. I may have sold it below what it was worth but not by much.

Vx is just the carburated version of the 3.1 liter 76 degree V6 block. Friend has one on a 1996 Grady and has had no problems in about 250 operating hours.

This model 21' Outrage was rated for 300HP (twin 150's). Price seems a little high. The Yamaha would be the least of my worries.

I just bought a 1996 21' Outrage with a 225 Johnson Oceanrunner. It had a total of 1 hour on the engine. The thing had been stored in a barn. It came with a new canvas and perfect trailer with about 50 miles on it. I paid $32,000 to a guy in Ohio. This boat has not let me down and there wasn't a single scratch on it. The boat was as good as new. I don't consider myself paying too much for it. I don't know what a new one would be, but I guarantee it wouldn't be $32,000. My 2 cents.

I can sell you my 1996 Outrage fully rigged with new power head on engine and is in pristine condition a lot cheaper.

See it in the MarketPlace

tully_mars-
How many hours do you have on the boat? Sounds to me like you have used her quite a bit. Could you please post some closeup pictures of her when you get a chance. I am curious why you haven't been able to sell her asking $25k. I'd guarantee that your boat isn't in the same condition as the one I purchased a few months back. My 2 cents.

I just bought a 95' 24' OR 225hp yamaha 450 hours, with all the extras for $28,000. Owner was asking $33,000. The yamaha is a great motor (although I was told it was underpowered) and pushes along just fine. I would think it would be great on a 22'. Mine tows great with a 1/2 ton p/u and I would assume the 22' would too.

Well, check out the condition at:

www.advanced-eng.com/images/whaler.htm

I'll put my condition up against anyones.
(Indoor kept, Fresh Water river, two coats of wax/year)

That's all I'll say about that because I only buy new since I can't find a used boat ever in any condition good enough to satisfy me.

Actually, usage is average, 200 hrs on original motor but the local dealer did an incorrect install on the water pump. Just one of those things and I was ready to upgrade anyway.

Everyone is just missing out that is why it hasn't sold. If someone had the money and was looking for a new quality Whaler I think it would have sold, but economy in Mobile, AL is really bad right now and Whalers aren't popular here. Everyone wants Regulators and Contenders for the SKA that are buying so there you have it. Plus, I am neither close to the NorthEast or the Great Lakes even though I can deliver.
