What do you want to know? I just happen to have a 1988 CPD catalog at my disposal. The CPD L.E.S. (presumably standing for Law Enforcement Series) models had a fiberglass center console that was unique to them. This console is not like a Montauk’s. This is a sit down boat with an upholstered bench seat spanning the width of the boat in front of a raised stern deck with storage compartments beneath. |

Thanks Tom. You answered one of my questions, that concerning the rear deck. Is this the heavier commerical Montauk hull? Is the wood location the same as the recreational hull? Yes, the console is more rounded than the Montauks and does not have the stainless wheel. It also seems to be smaller i.e. not as wide and lower. It may even be narrower, I did not measure it. Also suprised to see no bow chock just a Perko light. If I buy this rig I will send Jimh some pics, course I will have to modify it. That rear deck has to go. Thanks for the reply, an interesting note, the hull is rated for 100 HP our local DNR had a 115 OMC mounted on it. Jim Armstrong |

Yes this is the same hull as all the 1977 to 2001 16'-7" Whalers (like the Montauk).I would not assume the wood embedment is the same as a recreational hull. You should ask Whaler about this. The console appears quite a bit smaller than a Montauk's. The L.E.S. is a very stripped down model. No lights or rails are included in the standard equipment but a set of unique stripes on the side of the hull are. The "Utility" models are much closer in appearance to the recreational models than the L.E.S. models. |

Jameso I just purchased a 17' CPD hull and asked BW about wood placement. Chuck Bennett responded that the wood placed for reinforcement would be the same as in the recreational hulls except for additional reinforcement to accomodate accessories specific to the individual hull. If you email your HIN to the tech/service address on the BW website they will give you the history of your boat. |

Thanks, Just got off the phone with Chuck Bennett, he said the hull was built to work boat specs with more glass and gel. Wood as a minimum is the same as the Montauk but may contain more or larger pieces to accomodate each boat's accessories. Guess these were built as a one of a kind according to buyers specs. I am trying to decide how to best utilize the hull and existing parts to make a rig that suits me. Thanks again for the info. Jim Armstrong |

I talked to whaler and was told there was no diffrence in the weight of the 90hp 100hp 115hp , even omc says they are the same motor the only diffrence is the horse power 15hp is not enough of a diffrense a bit more torq out of the hole, I get 2 miles a hour fast with the 115hp than I did with the 90hp and the 115 get better gas millage I hope this is due to a newer motor plus I don't have to hammer dowm wfo, I run almost full power and back of just a bit seems to make a big Diffrence in gas,Where I find the best is getting up in skinny water you find a crab trap with a small hole hammer down and its up on plane in a heart beat and will run in much skinnyer water it seems could just be im seeing things all I know is when I look back im not kicking up the bottom |
