I have learned a lot from this forum over the last few weeks and am now the proud owner of a new 16 ft Ventura that my family and I enjoyed over the past weekend. I have a few beginner questions that I hope I could get some help with. The boat is now on a trailer in my garage and I need to paint the bottom. Does anyone have any practical tips on painting the bottom while the boat is on a trailer, especially how to lift the boat to be able to paint the part that rests on the bunks? Also I am wondering whether to take the opportunity now to apply a barrier coat. The boat will be in the water 7-8 months each year. Thanks in advance for any help.

New bottoms require a barrier coat so the paint will stick. talk to your supplier where you get the paint from. I would personally have a dealer do it the first time so it is done right and straight. It is only a couple three hundred.
