Group- My offer of 14,000 for a 91 Outrage 19, Merc 135 outboard and 91 galv trailer was accepted by the seller today! This boat was mentioned here at http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002377.html . Sale is subject to satisfactory boat survey to be done at my expense. I plan to call local Whaler dealer (Whalertowne.com) and ask them who they recommend for marine surveys in Annapolis MD area. How much does a survey cost lately? What do I tell the surveyor to pay special attention to? Thanks.

Congrats -- I can recommend Jerry Tripitelli -- during the nightmare that I went through in trying to buy a Revenge from a wacko this spring Jerry was professional, supportive and generally a real gentleman. I think (I'd have to look it up) it was like $10 a foot. Either way, when the deal fell through, he refunded my money quickly and without any whining. Most surveyors (on the East coast especially) know what to look for in Whalers. I know that Jerry is very familiar with Whalers. I would also make sure that the buyer will accept a deposit and a written agreement to sell the boat to you for the agreed on price, as well as what would 'void' the sale -- basically that the surveyor says that the boat has some big flaw that makes it not as it appears. Tom Clarke was nice enough to show up to look at a different Revenge that I was getting surveyed in Seattle -- it had a huge delamination, so it wasn't the 'turnkey' boat that the seller thought it was. Are you saying that the surveyor refunded your money when the deal fell through? |

Ditto. I thought that he did his job well and that he would keep the fee. |

You have to send the fee in advance for the surveyor to schedule the travel/survey -- Jerry could have kept the money, (the seller jerked him around as well when he was trying to get to the boat to do the survey) but he really impressed me by sending it back. |
