Author Topic:   Think I bought a whaler too, but now not sure

Always wanted a small whaler for my small lake, and stumbled accross a deal I had to snap up. Not having owned a whaler before, I began to research my new to me toy. It was advertised as a 1972 Boston Whaler 13.5' Sport. I could not find evidence of a Hull ID, though it could have been covered by previous repairs. A friend happen to mention it looked a lot like a Delquay (not sure on spelling). I have digital pics I can provide, but I have noticed the interior color doesn't match specs, though could have been painted at some point in the last 30 years. There is no wooden seat in the bow section.

Wondering if someone could help me confirm what I have, if a whaler then what year? If not a whaler then what?

I have a few pics I can forward or post, if someone can help me.

Thanks in advance

Could you post some picts.
An sure that most of the people on this site can tell you if it is a whaler or not.

I hope you got it cheap because I do not think you got a whaler. ALL had the wooden hatch and you would notice if it was filled in.

I emailed some pics to Jim for posting. Picked it up for about $1800 US Bigshot. Boat, motor and trailer. Good deal, the boat is very sturdy, and needs little attention. The motor, on the otherhand will see some work this winter.

I am sorry to say that it is not a Boston Whaler, although it is a fine looking little boat.

Thanks to all for your assistance. What I have is a Dell Quay Dory, Mediterranean 13, built in the UK. Hard to tell year of production, as there are no ID numbers, and Dell Quay's history is nowhere near as well documented as the Whaler. Dell Quay started production in 1960, so it could be as old as 42 years. Anyway, it is a nice little boat. Heavier by far than the whaler 13 too, just over 600 lbs. Similar construction however. Very stable, tight hull.

Did a quick search, these boats seem to be constructed the same as Whalers, i.e. foam sandwich. The 13 sure looks like a Whaler
