I have a 1976 Newport and am wondering if the two Red Morse Control cables that are used for Shifting and Throttle are "Utility" cables. Meaning, are they compatible with all manufacturers of outboards? Will the cables for a Mercury work on an Evinrude, Johnson, Yamaha? If not, where is the best location to purchase new cables? Average Prices? Thank you, Jeffrey

Jeffrey,I have the same situation and have been told that the cables are universal. They can adapt to any engine with little to no modification. I'm not 100% sure but we'll see in a few minutes if this is true. Regards, Jay |

If the engine end of the cables is threaded Teleflex/Morse makes adapters for them. |

Looking for parts for Morse controls check out 1-800-247-6324 http://www.charment.com/They have all the parts you'll need. Teleflex wasn't able to help me. Cables are the same and are available from www.surplusunlimited.com It is the connections at the motor that are different. |

Thank you to all! They are both threaded, so I should be in luck! I am going to go out to do some tinkering with the Whaler. So, I should be ordering some adapters tonight! This site is an asset to all who use it! I hope to have some great photos of my Newport sent in to the Cetacea soon!Jeffrey |
