I've read some of the posts on how to mount kickers on varioius types of whalers and haven't ran across this problem yet.

I have a 1991 17 Outrage, serial number A90124. The reason I mention the serial number is all 17' Outrage made after A90250 had "pony motor wood added to the transom".

All I have on either the port or starboard side is foam filled between the fiberglass. I have positively confirmed this :-(

If I had wood in the transom like the Montauk or newer Whalers, there would be no problem. I do troll with the kicker or at least plan to, and SeaTow is not available in some of the areas I fish, so I couldn't use Bigshots suggestion he mentioned in a different post.

So the question is: How do I mount a bracket to the transom? A custom made bracket or adding wood support between the fiberglass (as BW suggested)? Anyone had to deal with this issue? Any ideas, suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks, Marc...

A backing plate would be enough to support a small engine. Might not look that great but it would be plenty strong.

Can you buy these backing plates or do you have to have on frabricated? Metal or wood? To quote a famous (or is that infamous) forum poster: Details? :-)
