I do a bit of lobstering (source of amusement/tension release on the weekends). After [straining myself] on several occasions from heavy trap loads--not with lobster unfortunately--I am looking into a hauler or at least a block to install to aid in the pick up of the traps. Has anyone ever attempted? If so I would also like it to be removeable. I have a couple of ideas but figured this was the best place to ask for advice.

You might try calling the folks at maritime skiff--very friendly and have some experience with this set up. What they tell you might translate nicely to the Whaler. I would be shocked if they did not help on a non skiff, [that's] just the kind of people they seem to be.

I have contacted several people; they all have the same ideas: permanent fixtures. I am not too keen on. I was hoping someone on the forum may have some suggestions as to a temporary thing and how to go about mounting it on the floor of the boat.

I'm looking at the same thing, different reason.

Try this web site for ideas. I'd like to modify the engine lift with a spool of wire and a little electric drive on a remote (borrowed from a Scotty downrigger). All mounted so I can remove it for happy hour.

These guy make great stuff at reasonable prices and will custom build. Ship anywhere.

I have a small 20 novi, live in boston. I go lobstering for the same reason. I was feeling the same pain in hauling traps on occasion. I used some galvi pipe ( used at our club for hoops around the pilings) made up an arm. I then went to McMaster Carr ( check online - general distributer of all kinds of stuff) bought aluminum pipe fittings i.e. side mount , bottom mount and some end caps...you might look at some sort of pully block. Set this up and it really is a back saver and makes pulling traps a lot better. I made the arm removable but leave it on. I also was lucky enough to get a loaner on a block ( pully). Have fun
