I've ordered a new Mills suntop for my 2003 13' Sport with bow rail. Do most of you have a preference as to which way it lays down? Does it get in the way up front or cause a problem folded back toward the stern?
Just trying to decide how I'm going to mount it. Thanks

Chief...

On my 13 sport (1967 though), I mounted the Bimini so that it can lay down both ways. When I am fishing alone, I lay it forward, It lays just on top of the front norman pins. When I have a buddy along,it lays back and does not get in the way of outboard operation or trolling motor operation. The boot cover (optional) is highly reccomended as it keeps everything together.

You will need to do some testing for best positioning. The reference section developed was a big help in doing this correctly.

I also was not too proud to contact the manufacturer of the Bimini during the installation process more then once. The customer service given was invaluable.\

good luck

It usually comes with a track so that you can slide the bimini forward or back to place it in either position.

Sorry, not sure how the double postings happen...was still in the middle of typing.

A few here on the forum suggested not to get the optional track...not sure, or do not remember why though.

I recently added a bimini to my 13'. I layed it down on the boat and figured the best place for mount pads. Mine sits just forward of the engine when folded. It keeps it out of the way when not in use.

I bought a bimini from Mills in the spring for an admittedly different boat (Dauntless 15). It came with detailed mounting instructions. I would hesitate to alter their design. Mount it according to their plans and enjoy!

Ours was an expensive but beautiful piece of work which we used almost every time out this summer.

No regrets,
Paul

Among the reasons for buying the Mills canvas is that they have already figured out how to install it. Just follow the directions.

I second the suggestion on the track. With a track, you can drop the top forward or back depending on what you're doing. The track is also useful for repositioning the top to move the shade where you want it. You bought the top for shade, why mount it in one immovable place?

Another option to consider..

I hated the bimini folded down... always in the way - front or back. I changed the rear tie down to solid rod and leave it up but unfolded when we want sun.

I'm just north of you in Sheldon. Should we start a thread in Rendezvous for a Lake Champlain rendezvous?

My bimini lays toward the back but if I used it more (it's in the garage now) I would switch it to the front as I do a alot of fishing and found it gets in the way back there.

I got so annoyed with the bimini laying down and always in the way I had Mills make me two struts. It is now never in the way and stands up over the RPS.If I want I can just pull the two pins and lay it down in the bow or the stern.
