Does anyone make a trailer specifically for the 17 BW hull?? I know there are many trailers that fit the hull but I thought I read somewhere that a manufacturer was making one especially for the Montauk. Any ideas??

Assuming you are talking about a classic 17, BOSS makes a very good trailer for the Montauk. It is available through Marine Max.Red sky at night.. . JB :) |

I was wondering the same thing. I have a 17' Newport in good shape but with a bad trailer. Not bad, but in need of a sandblast and repaint. The manufacturer, Trailrite in CA quoted $45 per linear foot. Ouch. At that price a new trailer looks pretty good. |

E-Z Loader also makes a bunk trailer to fit the Montauk. |

The trailer brand that I would like to get for my Montauk is Eagle.each trailer is specifically made for a specific type of boat. Here is the link to their site http://www.eagletrailer.com/marlin.htm Dealers like the adjustable trailers because they can sell it to someone else if you cancel your order for it. I like the idea of custom manufacuring |

Boat trailers are Erector Sets. The get bolted together to fit. If somebody has one that they claim is for the Montauk, it's 90% marketing hype and 10% willingness to put it roughly right at the factory. Chuck

I have an EZ Loader for my Montauk and would like something with better support. The float-on doesn't center the boat and I always have to crank it up over the bow stop roller. I have added Stoltz rollers for the transom and the lower part of the bow but I can still hit the keel at the tongue connector if the trailer isn't completely under water. Next step is to add poly guides for centering. Ron |

EZ Loader makes three different size (height) bunk brackets. Put the next taller size brackets on the front and the boat will clear the frame fine. |

All new Montauk 170's come from the factory with EZ Loader trailers. I am very happy with mine. Comes with a 2 year Warrantee. |

I have the EZ loader for my older style 2001 hull. Bunks are adjusted so that the boat centers every time and I can easily pull it onto the front roller then crank it up the last few feet. I did replace the rubber rollers with the Stoltz ones. Works great. Barnett |

I have a 2001 Montauk with an EZload trailer. It is very easy to launch and recover, no problems so far. I do need to replace the front end roller as it leaves black marks on the bow. |

I have an Eagle Trailer made specifically for my Outrage 17....triblet states that trailers are erector sets.. Sorry, not when you order one specifically for a Whaler. My Eagle trailer is not bolted together, it is all welded construction. You cannot move or adjust the bunks as they are welded, (Not Bolted to the frame) and it is made just for the Outrage 17. You cannot even move the axle as it is welded also. I really like the Eagle trailer. It has many nice features including surge brakes, in the frame submersible tail lights, and it was Hot Dipped Galvanized after it was assembled. Eagel makes trailers specifically for the different model boats, or you can get a generic, bolted (erector set) model like triblet mentions. If they were located on the West Coast, I would probably buy another Eagle trailer for my 1978 Montauk.

My experience with a bolt together trailer hasn't been good. I have a Caulkins for my Montauk and three ubolts that hold the cross members broke at different times while towing. Not sure if it was defective u bolts or if they were overtightened, but it wasn't fun. If you have a Caulkins and it has U bolts, check them out. Scott |

WPR. Check out DHM trailers at http://www.dhmenterprises.com/. They make a really nice trailer and will custom fit it for the Montauk if they don't already have the design in their computer. All welded and top quality. Scott |

Ironic that EAGLE trailers are made right down the river from me in Wyandotte, Michigan, yet my Whaler sits on a PACIFIC trailer, which also is an all-welded custom fitted trailer made in California. |

Pacific (or Pacifica?), and Trail Rite trailers are 2 of the best trailers I know of on the West Coast. Calkins was also a good trailer on the West Coast but has gone out of business, and now I have heard that Carnai Trailers Inc - 19103 E. Cataldo - Greenacres, Wa 99106, has taken over Calkins.... I also own a 1985 Calkins trailer that sits under my 1985 Outrage 18.... It is a good trailer but is has Bolt-ons instead of the welded on bunk construction. I guess any trailer with the bolt-ons is subjected to breakage in the U Bolts etc.....Tail Rite has always been one of my favorites here in CA. I have a 1978 American Trailer under my 1978 Montauk that was made in Downey, CA., and was a duplicate of the Trail Rite... Everything is bolt-on, but still an excellent trailer. I have never had problem 1 with it...... How Ironic is it that so many trailers bounch from Coast to Coast???? I guess a good trailer is a good trailer??... The cheap trailers just would not make the journey more then once...... |

My 02, Probably more damage done to boats on improper trailers than any other one item. I saw a 15 that had the entire bow damaged because a dealer did not set up the trailer properly. Jim Armstrong |

You may want to try dave's trailers in glen burnie. We bought a galvanized bunk trailer made by venture which is all you need for the 17' montauk. Price is around 7-800.00. You don't need or want brakes on the trailer. The up keep on brakes is sometimes costly. I bought a loadrite tandem from dave's for 2300.00 with brakes for my 22' revenge because of the weight. Good luck |

wpr,I selected a Shorland'r trailer for my Alert 17 (Montauk hull). The trailer performs very well, is fitted for the boat perfectly, and, when equipped with a swivel tongue, fits in my garage with an overall length of 19'1". The tires were balanced and inflated perfectly on delivery, and launching and retrieving the boat are very easy with the wide bunks. If memory serves me correctly, the model number is SLB 20L with 13" tires and a swivel tongue. The MSRP is about $1300. To be sure of the above, I'd suggest contacting Dave Lang of Shorland'r @ (407) 656-6808. Paul |

Loadrite trailers makes a galvanized trailer specificly for a Boston Whaler. I have one of their larger dual axle models on my 22'Outrage. One of the largest trailer sellers in the New York eastcoast area. Check the Loadrite.com web site. |

I purchaced a Pacific trailer for my Nausett and it is a vary good trailer. I later noticed that the local BW dealer sells them with new whalers. That may not be much of a help to people on the east coast. |
