What's the deal with rollers. I hear they can damage a whaler hull. I assume its when the trailer is bumping down the road. Is it safe to STORE a whaler on a roller type trailer?
I have access to a dry floating storage dock but it has rollers at the stern (not bunk style). Is this OK? (15' GLS)

in general, I beleive that the issue of roller damage is when the hull is dry pulled out of the landing and the weight of the vessell is "rolled"up out of the water. This is theorized to cause delamination between the foam and glass (like rolling out dough)i. I dont think that the boat sitting on a roller will do anything accept maybe create a dimple if there is too much weight.

Toad21 -

I saw your rig on P. 50 of Cetecea - I think you're fine...keel rollers and bunks on each side are ideal for the Whaler hull...I have that set-up on my 15 GLS. (Loved your photos so much, I bought my own!)

Check out the reference section for an in-depth article on trailers for your whaler. It should put your mind at ease.

The recommendation to avoid all-roller (floppy-roller) trailers comes directly from the Whaler factory for many years.

Most Whalers were not delivered with a factory fitted trailer. The dealer supplied the trailer. Marketing arrangements at the dealer, trailer stock on hand, and lately difficulty in finding a properly designed trailer has caused many Whalers to be delivered with a trailer rig that is not in the factory guide line.
