Haven't setteled on a name yet. I wanted to come up with a name to honor my parents who have passed away. So I tried to come up with the usual combining of their names but nothing seemd to click as a great name. My dad was a avid fisherman & the last to pass on. Sence we used some of the $$ from the inheritance to buy the Montauk my wife suggested that we simply name the boat "Thanks Dad!". What do you think? |

"Nancy's Ring" is the name of my 1980 Montauk. I called it that because I used the money saved for an engagement ring to buy the boat instead. "Pleasure Ribbed" is the name that will go on my "new to me" 1972 Outrage (I acquired it this summer.) |

Got a chuckle out of "Nancy's Ring". My wife's name is Monna and "Monna's Rock" evolved for similar reasons. Our new boat is a different story. Since we bought her sight unseen, we're considering "Blind Date". But, since shes a Revenge, I'm thinking of once again honoring my wife (although the name might not be an honor)with "Monna-Zoomin-Revange". I would appreciate any votes for one of the two and I'll keep you posted. Thanks, Gary |

I think that's why my wife suggested it. Complete text of the story (which has nothing to do with Whalers, and I don't particularly like) can be seen at: http://www.classicreader.com/read.php/sid.3/bookid.924/sec.10/ I'm a strong believer of avoiding cute or pun names for boats. |

Our current 22 Outrage is "Her (Whale) Lure". Partially plagiarzed version of Larry Goltz' name (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, don't you know). The Whale part is a picture. I told my best friend that if she would buy me this boat, I would marry her. She did so I did. That was "her lure" By the way, "Her (Whale) Lure" is being adopted this weekend, so we'll miss her. Our new boat is an '89 Temptation, whose name will be appropriately enough "Last Temptation" since that was the last year the Temptation was built and probably will be the last Whaler we'll get (except of course for the 15 Sport, but that's adding to the fleet, not replacing, so that doesn't count) |

Crankee Yankee. Long Story. I was an usher in a great friends wedding party on Martha's Vineyard in 2000. I had introduced this same friend to boating in Georgian Bay and he knows how much I love it. The bride's paternal grandmother hosted the wedding in her garden and the garage was used by the caterers to prepare dinner. The Whaler had sat in the garage since the divorce in the early 90's, without the engine- the bride's mother decided she wanted it, only the engine. I think their was a little pinch of acrimony. Whaler had to go before the rehearsal dinner, and yours truly took it. Now for the name details. The grandmother is a lovely lady, as are both parents, but in the words of the bride ‘a little cranky’. She calls them all 'Cranky Yankees.' I felt the name was quite fitting as without the crankiness, I likely would not have said 13' Whaler. The above story did preempt my original name for the boat’ Old Bay Seasoning’. ‘ Old’ cause the boat is a '67, ‘Bay’ cause I will use it most in Georgian Bay, and Malpeque Bay, and ‘Seasoning’ cause it increases my enjoyment of these bodies of water much better as a food seasoning would do. And the whole name cause I love eating Blue Crabs cooked in Old Bay Seasoning. Wow, what a love story. I should have just named it after my wife. |

"WHERE2?" 15' Sport. Anything that will float in 8" of water can go just about anywhere, hence "WHERE2?". Besides, at the time, the car had a license plate that said "WHERES florida". Their owner is a Professional Surveyor & Mapper... The original "WHERE" was a 10' Zodiac, being inflatable it could go anywhere... |
