I mounted a stereo speaker in the cover that goes over my fuel hose on the port side of my 18 OR. Is there any chance that the wire from the stereo to the speaker could cause a spark? I am worried that if the fuel hose ever leaked or if fumes built up in the hull, I could have a big problem. Should I be concerned? Thanks.--Will

Not really being the voltage is relatively low. If you touch the 2 wires they do not spark. You may want to rig up some kind of a shield just in case. I believe a stereo store would have one so in a car door for example the water would not ruin the speaker, etc.

Depends on the power of the stereo. I've
seen sparks when hooking up a stereo speaker.
A REALLY wimpy one, no. Something suitable
for subwoofers, hell yes.

Now, there won't be a spark as long as
everything stays hooked up. And if you make
sure that there's venting (a good idea
anyway) the fumes won't concentrate there.

Chuck, thanks for the reply. The stereo is a garden variety Pioneer AM/FM/CD with a built in 25wx4 amp. There is decent venting on the bottom of the cover that I think would allow any fumes to get out.
