I have an original top mount tower style Ritchie compass that came off a center console Boston Whaler. It has a black face with white #`s. There is a stainless or chrome "bezel" that fits over the compass itself. There is also a sun or "reflection" shield. This is a lighted compass and is in good condition. No fluid leaks. Price $95.00 plus shipping. Steve

I mounted a Ritchie S53 Explorer on my Montauk. It is a low profile surface mount so the only drilling required is two pilot holes for the mounting screws and one for the power wire. Lists for about $70.00.

My 1988 Option catalog for the older whalers shows 3 different Compass options.

1. Ritchie Explorer D-55 Deck Mount
2. Navigator Surface Mount
3. Navigator Deck Mount

I have the Ritchie D-55 mounted on my 1978 Montauk. If I were to replace it, I think I would go with the next model up, the Voyager D-85 Deck Mount.

Some of the best prices I have found are at Surplus Unlimited:
www.surplusunlimited.com/storefront.htm
The D-55 is $39.95
The D-85 is $89.95
The prices really start going up from there. I don't think it is necessary to have a larger compass then the ones above for a Montauk but that is up to the individual.

I agree with Whalersman. Those are also some good prices. Just priced out from Richie and the D-55 was $63.55. I think the ultimate compass would be the new on market Richie super sport, ss-1100 which has the high visibility blue dial. It is 5 1/4" x 5 1/2".You can see at richienavigation.com. This will cost around $227.97. Big bucks.
