What is the proper way to store engine for the winter, up or down? Thanks.

I've always been told to store it in the down position,no load on the trim cylinders taht way, for the winter and keeps water from collecting in the prop hub area. |

I store my outboard down, and I didn't fog it because I store my boat in our heated barn. Its going to be ok. |

Bugsy- Foging is not a preventative for cold as much as lubricating the cylinder and pistons during long periods of non use. I can't wait for spring. cc |

Mikee332, Best to store in the down position. outboards are designed to drain when vertical.
Also, the prop bullet will not fill up with water/moisture in the vertical position. You should fog it. Fogging is a rust preventative for the delicate needle bearings and rings. Temp. makes little or no difference. |

Bugsy, Fogging isn't to protect against freezing, it's to protect against rust on the cylinder walls. Heated barn or not, It's a good ideas to fog the motor if it will be idle for several months. |
