Replaced the steering head on the Montauk this afternoon with a new Teleflex Radial head. During testing I had some loose play of about 2 inches on the steering wheel before the motor moves at all. Replaced steering head thinking that it would fix the problem and it took out 1/2 inch at most. Cable looks good and everything is tight back at the motor. Not even close to this much play on our last Montauk and I would like to know if this is normal and how much is experienced by others. Input would be great. Are any of you using Hydraulic steering? Bigshot?

Thanks for the help,

PSW

After replacing my NFB steering system twice in three years, I bought a Baystar hydraulic system for my Alert/Montauk 17 and Merc 90 4S. Nice and tight. Oh yeah!
