Got a 11 3/4 x 17 aluminum prop on my 15ft. GLS with the 50HP 2 cyl. Evinrude w/T&T. Tachs out at 5500RPM (optimium?) and 30 kts. with just me and 6 gal of gas & battery. Id like to get a Stainless Steel prop for its durability and put the current one backup. Everything I read says stay with the current specs if you have tilt and trim, other wise drop pitch by 2.
So whats it to be??? Speed is plenty good and Im more intrested in getting on plane quicker and pushing a heavier load than speed. Also were is the best place to get a good SS prop with out paying an arm and leg?

17 Montauk with a Merc 50 4 stroke mounted 2 holes up. Started with a 13 pitch aluminum performance was ok, maxed out at about 5800. tried a Merc 3 blade Vengence SS 13 pitch and dropped to about 5000 rpm. Now running a Merc Trophy Sport 4 blade SS 13 and am back up to 5800 rpm and great performance.

The only way to be sure is to find a prop shop that will let you experiment, as each boat/motor/load combination will react differently

Also, check the PERFORMANCE forum section for much more discussion of propeller selection.
