I am looking at a 24 privateer with no power. I am think about a New single 200, 225 or 250 2 stroke. Where can I get a suzuki 225 2-s, or even a left over 225,250, 1999 leftover johnson cheap? What can I expect for price, I have heard of rumors of 225 2-strokes going for 6 grand! |

Bone, I know where you can buy 2S Yamaha motors well in the Northwest, but I have no idea if that's helpful or not - because you didn't fill in any of the profile infomation, so I have no idea where you live. |

Don't be stuck thinking you must but close to you-unless you have a dear relationship with a outboard dealer. I recently re-powered my 1996 20ft. Outrage with a 200 hp Yamaha HPDI. I got the best deal from Central Florida Yamaha. (Google search) or their website at Boats.net. They were very straight about the deal-no hiddden costs, no sales tax and shipping was $360 to Calif. I also bought all controls and a Yamaha AA prop from them. The catch on Yamaha is that it must be installed by a certified Yamaha mecanic on your end if you want the warranty. I called a few shops in my area and found a good Yamaha dealer who offered mostly smaller Yamaha engines and asked if he could come close to the price I was quoted. He couldn't - but agreed to do the installation. He now has a loyal new service customer! By the way there is very good article written recently by Ralph Lambrect about the two stroke vs. Four stroke question. Very informative. It was posted on Boats.net--if you can not find it I will fax you a copy. Another opion for you is to trailer your boat into Canada and have a motor installed. I got some good quotes in the Vancouver area. Royce |

I would say that in most cases your warranty issues will be taken care of by your local dealer, regardless of where the motor was purchased. We are a warranty repair shop for Johnson/Evinrude and Mercury, we have the ability to sell motors but do not. We don't care where the motor came from, you are treated the same as all of our customers. Think of this as an ezample: You have a trip planned for the weekend, on Wednesday you start the engine and have a problem, take into the shop on Thursday and explain the situation. They say no problem, unless it is serious we will have you on the water. Much better than, sure we can take care of it but we are 3 weeks out. Support your local dealers and they will support you. Dick- I agree about supporting local dealers. In this case the local dealers did not have a non-current (2002) 200hp Yamaha. One dealer had a 2001 and wanted $2,500. more than I was offered a 2002 for in Florida. Add in sales tax of about $1000. minus shipping of about $360. and the difference is over $3,000. A thousand here and a thousand there and pretty soon you run into real money! By the way, Yamaha now requires that the motor be installed by a factory certified mechanic in order for the warranty to be valid. Yamaha will not allow their Canadian dealers to ship into the US but Honda still can be shipped. |

First of all, the factory dosen't require a dealer to install, [ mount ] the engine, just time it & set the sync & link, & start it. You might do better going to the WMI boats, [ boating ] & ask Boatdood, he's in S. Carolina. He had a 2002 Johnson 225 for under 6 Grand, only thing is, if your in Calif., it's against the law to purchase a carbed engine, must be injected or 4 stroke. A buddy of mine just got a 2001 - 150 hp Evinrude FICHT from them, think he paid $6,800. He [ boatdood ] also had a new 2,000 Evinrude FICHT 200 hp for $7,500. No tax. If you can't reach him, e-mail me for the address,..........Whaler58@aol.com Sal |
