I am looking at a hoist to install in my slip at the Marina. I have looked at several brands and Hydrohoist keeps coming up as the one to use.
I have a 16 Dauntless 2001.
Anyone have any experience with who to use and who to stay away from?

Need a little help here. Saltwater or fresh? If saltwater, what are the tides like? Covered slip or not? If covered, can the roof support a lifting device?

If you want installer info, we need to know where you have the slip.

SSCH.......
The Marina (floating with cables and anchors) is on a closed in fresh water lake....very deep, avg near 175ft.
The slip is covered, and the roof structure will not support anything overhead. The only lifts that will work are called the front mount. I share a u-shaped slip, so I have walk around access to only one side.
Any thoughts?

Unfortunately, I have no experience in the conditions you describe. My own boat is hanging from the boat house roof on slings, over less than 6 feet of saltwater. If you had the ability to use an overhead lift, I had a great choice for you.

Sorry

Hey SSCH,

What kind of boat is it that you have and do you leave the plug out while it is lifted?
I am moving into a sling slip and I was trying to decide what to do with the plug in my Montauk. The slip has a cover overhead so rainwater should not get into the boat.

KyRick, I've had good luck with my Hewitt boat lift. I've used it for 3 seasons with no problem. I have a Ventura16, the dual console version of your Dauntless. You can check out Hewitt lifts at: www.hewitt-roll-a-dock.com/lifts/main.html

KyRick, I had a Hydrohoist "Side Tie B model" for several years and it worked very well. I didn't use it for my Whaler, however. One concern I would have is that the older Whalers were designed to be supported either from the lifting eyes or the keel. The same reasoning as center roller trailers applies here. My Hydrohoist had little keel support, most of the weight was borne by two 2X8's running laterally. This keel support issue may not apply to your Dauntless. Bob

Thanks for all the "Get Back", I went to the Lou.Ky. boat show and put together a deal on the new Hydrohoist. The EL4400 with polyethelyne tanks and all metal is above water line.
A bit of overkill on a 16 Dauntless, but looking at the potential to uprade size and weight later on! Better resale too.
