Still trying to decide which motors to use in the re-power of a Whaler 27 with a notched transom. The measurement between the current Yamaha 200’s is 30”. Can I mount the new 2003 Yamaha 250hp HPDI’s in the same holes? Those motors look pretty big and I’m concerned they may have to be mounted closer together to be able to turn.

I'd say it's no problem, HOWEVER, to be sure, go to:

www.boatsetup.com Go to the Forum section and then the Yamaha Section.

You'll get the proper answer for sure.

Don't move them closer if possible. The 27 has problems with ventilation, or cavitation when the engines are in the wrong location. Whaler recommended mounting engines on 29.5" centerline. I believe the distance was slightly greater for a 27, but I don't remember the exact numbers. Maybe you can get that number from whaler or Dana Point.

If the engines are too big to fit that far apart you may have to do some engineering. If you move the engines closer together I would recommend getting them as low as possible.

Considering all the $ for your repower, consider a set of jack plates for "easier" adjustment....

My comments are more for after you get the distance apart sorted out...
