I was wondering if anyone has an idea of how to keep the Teleflex steering cables on my boat from freezing up over the winter storage. I have an older 21' outrage and the wheel will not budge come spring when I pull it out of the garage every year which leads to the process of working/lubing it free. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Thanks in advance! |

The best solution I have found is to get one of the lube collars that goes on the tilt tube of the engine. Oil won't freeze, moisture does. They are available through Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas. Just look in the steering section of their on-line catalogs. |

DrinkNBud, I agree with duckktwin on the part of the Collar or Special Nut that goes on the end of the Tilt Tube.. However, What is the major problem area... If your cable is old and cracking, Replace the Steering Cable. If it is freezing inside the Tilt Tube you can replace the Tilt Tube with a Stainless Steel version.. Of course this requires more work and more expense... Or, is the engine pivot points on the shaft frozen?? Please let us know what the culprit is that is causing this.... |

It's usually hardened grease in the housing, heating the rod will free it. I've also just tapped on the rod end to break it loose. |

Questions about how to accomplish repairs or modifications of Boston Whaler boats are really more suited for the forum MODS and REPAIRS. As I write, there is a concurrent thread in that forum on this exact topic. Please see http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/003581.html |
