I am wondering if the center console in this model should be relatively water tight. I'm getting water in the battery compartment and the sump is regularly filling up and the pump is cycling on. The boat is sitting out in the rain on a trailer.

Also, do the batteries need to be in a battery box (assuming gel batteries), as I'd like to take them in and out to charge them and getting them and cables all back in the box isn't easy.

I get the same problem. After about 3 days of continious rain, I find the sump completely full of water. Not sure where it is trickling in from. Any other OR 24 owners have similar problems or good solutions. Mine is also a 96 model.
Maybe I should sit in the console with a book and see where the water is coming in from.

While working on my boat, I found the problem with my leaking console. The rod holder drain tubes had come out of the drain hole and were draining into the console. To see if this is why your console is leaking, there is a small hole at the front bottom of the console on the starboard side. If the drain tubes are visible in this drain hole, chances are your rod tubes are also draining into the console. To fix, remove the inside front of the console and reroute the tubes. I siliconed the tubes in place so this shouldn't happen again.

Scotts,
Indeed you have identified the problem for me as well. As you said the rod holders were draining into the console.
If you find yourself in this neck of the woods (Hong Kong), then drop in; might go out and catch us some King Mackerel, typhoon or no typhoon.
Thanks to the Whaler Forum.

Mojo: You are welcome. I've received lots of help and am grateful for all of it. It feels good to be able to help someone else out.

If you find yourself in the Sacramento/San Francisco area, look me up. I'd be glad to have you along for some salmon, halibut or albacore fishing.

I also have the same problem. I took the interior apart and looked for the source. I did not have trouble with the pole holder drains. My problem was the fresh water line fittings were leaking. With the boat sitting in the sun pressure builds up in the tank. I found cracked fittings. replaced them and still had the tendency to leak. I backed off the fresh water servicing fill cap. Now pressure does not build up in the tank when not in use. No trouble ever since.
