I just purchased a 1990 Honda 10 hp for our 11 ft. Whaler. It planes with one person in it but does not plane with two people. Is it too much to expect of this engine to have the power to plane two people? Any 11 ft. Tender owners out there with similiar rigs-any suggestions?

1994 11' side console w/ 1992 15 hp Merc. Ours planes fine with one adult; won't plane with two adults. May try out other props this year; last year was our first year with this boat. Good luck! -- LKS

There used to be a nice fellow (in my opinion, but who am I?! :) Anyways he has an 11 footer with I think its a 20 or 25 hp.Yamaha on it and he wants to sell and move up to a 17. "Running with the big boys now" :-D

25 hp is perfect for this boat.

I had a 1998 Tender with a 1998 9.9 Merc. It would plane with me and my wife on board, although it took awhile. Sometimes it would have to be down current or downwind. We would also surf the back of a wake or pop up while turning. Anything else on board - child, cooler, dog - would relegate us to displacement speed only.

I had an 11 foot with steering wheel and a 20hp Merc on it in 1981 or so and we put a lead block in the anchor storage in the front. Made all the difference in the world. No problem with two adults. Try it, it works.

I owned an 11' tiller model which was powered with a 15 hp. She flew with two adults. The max hp rating is 10 w/ tiller and 20 w/ console. There are many tiller models running with 15's. I do not have experience with any other hp other than the 15 on this hull, however I feel the 15 was a good fit.
