I have a 18 foot whaler with the fishing package. It looks like they just drill a hole thru the botton of the boat and attach a pump thru the hull. Is this a factory install or a dealer job? The hoses also do not have any shutoffs I would have figured it would be a better installation. I was under the impression that any opening below the water line needs shutoffs. How is yours installed?

My 17 OR (1993) has the live well option, and the install is much like yours - a hole through bottom, no trim ring or other fitting on outside of hole, just left unfinished, and pump is installed directly on the inside of hole without any hose connection. Output hose to tank has no shutoff either. I am pretty sure this is the way it was delivered originally, but it could hae been a dealer install. |

Check out the new ones. The way they are installed is that the inside hull is made to be closer to the outer skin. Also any opening under the waterline needs to have a Seacock valve. What happens if a hose breaks? Maybe Whalers can float with a 3/4 inch hole in the hull with no problems and they do not care. Also if you just drill a hole in the hull you have exposed foam between the two sides. New Whaler have shutoffs and the hull is made for the pumps. Should we all make sure they have shutoffs or is not a problem? |
