I keep both on the boat because they do different things well:I use 5200 (or 4200) for bedding/caulking/adhesing things that need a flexible, waterproof and usually permanent bond -- my trim tabs are attached to the hull with this stuff, which also serves to bed and waterproof the screws. I am never worried that my tabs are going to fall off.
Marine tex, on the other hand, is my number one choice for a hard repair -- filling a stripped hole or bonding the hard plastic tube that runs between my rear sumps when it broke off (that watertight repair, which was 'temporary' is still in service because it is just perfect and I hate fixing things that are no longer broken...)
Marine tex is a hard epoxy and 5200 is a flexible, soft adhesive. You need both. If anything, I don't carry any other epoxy than the MT.
As for drain tubes, when I replaced my corroded brass tubes with plastic, I used a softer adhesive caulk around the body of the tubes where they meet the foam, and a hard MT
to make a 'collar' at the exterior gel coat, to anchor and seal the tube in place. You really need both kinds of products.
