I will soon receive my boat registration decals from VDGIF. What is the best way to remove the former owner's numbers/letters?

How about a hair dryer set on high? That should soften the adhesive.

Heat and then acetone.

RL,
I just removed mine. I was ready with the heat gun but the stickers pealed right off with just a putty knife. Be careful not to scratch the gelcoat. I wish my trim motor removal went so easily!!

Try to peel the heated or not with a putty knife or razor blade. You will have some residue. Any D'Limonene based product will remove the adhesive residue. (goo gone, goof off etc.) D'limonene is the citrus solvent that is safe and easy to use but does magic on any adhesives.

I've removed more than a few over the years using acetone and a razor blade scraper.

Never thought of using heat as well but sounds like a good addiction to the procedure.
