I am looking for suggestions on what size and brand (or type) of baitwell to get for my 1987 Outrage 18. I have the cooler seat in front of the console and thanks to the Clark RPS leg project, I have recently installed a custom RPS with risers to accomodate a 72 quart cooler beneath. Storage needs are drybox, fish box, adult beverage box and live bait well. I understand that I can use the anchor locker for one of these, but it seems kind of cramped and I hope to catch more fish than it will accomodate. My outboard is on a setback bracket, so the splashwell is basically open, except for the lifting eyes. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Have had a 22 gal. oval bait well in the back
of my 18' Outrage for about 5 years now, believe it was made by a company called Battlewagon, not sure if their still around.
It has a cushioned top which makes a great seat and it's plumbed with a "T" fitting and shutoff directly from the bilge pump. This type of plumbing set up probably wouldn't satisfy the needs of a Fla. fisherman but for chasing fluke and striped bass here in the north east it works fine. If you get into any plumbing for yours you can't beat standard PVC hardware from Home Depot or your local hardware store.....Good luck.

Hey Fluke, do you have any pictures of this setup? I have a 18 Outrage and it seems that with a live well filled, the transom is going to be pretty close to submerged?

I have an Aquaworld Supertank Plus on the starboard side of the stern of my 1986 Montauk. It is 15 3/4" in diameter and 17 1/2" high. I can't believe how well it works. It kept shrimp and minnows alive and lively for over eight hours while fishing in the Mississippi sound. It comes with a 500 GPH electric pump along with an Aqua scoop water pickup system that works without the pump when you are moving. Mine holds 8 gallons, but they have two other models that hold 16 and 24 gallons. You can take a look at them at www.aquaworld-products.com.

Wildeone,
Sorry, don't have any pictures right now. As far as the transom being submerged, with 20 gal's of water in the livewell at 8.5 lbs. per gal. thats 170 lb, then my fishing buddy sitting on the livewell, add another 200 lb.,
then the stuff in the transom well, 8hp kicker, 3 gal tank, etc......nice to have the best flotation 18'6" boat ever made. Yes, with that load the hole shots are a little slower and at rest there's a couple inches of water in the well, but in a 2-3' chop that extra weight and increased hull displacement really smooth out the ride.

Thanks for the info--I checked out the AquaWorld website and their equipment looks first rate. It looks like one of the oval units will fit nicely in the splashwell, leaving the cockpit clear.
