I have some questions for anyone who knows about working with 316 stainless steel. I'm looking to make (or have someone make) a custom mount for me out of 316 stainless steel either 1/8" or 3/16" thick. It essentially looks like two (6"x3") "L" brackets joined together. Imaging two "L"s facing the same direction with the top of one joining the bottom right of the other.

What I'm wondering is if it is a difficult task to make an "L" bracket out of the 1/8" or 3/16" 316 SS? I can buy the right length of SS at a decent price (so I don't have to cut it), but am not sure if its difficult to bend the material or if it should be cut an welded together to form the "L". Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks.

Take the pieces to a metal fab. shop that has a good brake [a machine that bends metal].

Inexpensive and you'll get a good looking true 90 degree brake.

The readers of the forum Repairs/Mods are familiar with bending stainless steel tubing and have some discussions about it.

That would be the ideal place to ask questions like these.
