The deck on my 1987 18 ft. Outrage has softened to the point that the chairs are not stable. How can this be repaired? Is their wood under the deck to support the gas tank? I am also interested in sources for new and used whaler parts. Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledgg.

I am certainly no expert but am in the process of reworking an 82, 18' outrage. I have taken the deck off and it is two pieces of marine plywood sandwiched together with a fiberglass coating on the underside. On the upper (deckside) is what appears to be fiberglass, then gelcoat/finish. Your best bet appears to be removing the console and replacing the deck w/ either marine plywood or some type of synthetic. By the way , my deck removed (dry) had to weigh a couple hundred pounds. Good luck and I hope this helps.

It sound like water seeped in around the screw holes for your seats. You may be able to save the original deck by removing the rotten plywood, drying out the deck panel and then laminating new pieces to its underside. If the whole panel hasn't become soggy, you may only to repair a section.

Whether or not it's worth the effort, would depend on how close to original you want the boat to be.
